I wouldn’t be caught exaggerating if I stated that with all their bags and backpacks Jansport‘s created a solid style . Durable, handy and stylish – those words accompany any of the Jansport backpacks. Children love them, students find them great companions and travellers like me can’t imagine their yet another mountain hike without a Jansport backpack. Jansport makes a wide range of bags and backpacks, thus making it a sweaty business of choosing one that’s just right, and that’s why I’ve put up some personal reviews of the Jansport backpacks me and my family use or used in the past. Believe me, you will love JanSport ![]()

JanSport Spectrum Mesh Backpack
Probably best for girls, but non-pink colors would fit boys just as good:)
Online stores to get more Jansport backpacks from!
Of course, Jansport backpack line is much bigger than just the six backpacks I reviewed above. If none of them just quite cut it for you, but you are certain that Jansport is what you need, then pehaps you’d want to explore more of their product line. Below I’ve listed a couple of reliable stores that I shopped at myself (and I don’t shop just anywhere!), which don’t make you go through unnecessary hassles and deliver on time.
Rocky Mountain Trail is a satisfying store in all of the aspects and is a great choice to purchase backpacks from. All the different ranges of travel goods are available as well and sometimes you may even hit a sale
While I personally prefer Rocky Mountain Trail above, Sun&Ski sports sometimes has different stock of items, and more of their stock might be available for immediate delivery. A good catalogue of Jansport backpacks as well!

About Jansport…
Jansport was founded in 1967 in Seattle, WA by three awesome people; Jan Lewis (the name JanSport comes from here: ), her husband Murray Pletz and Skip Yowell. In 1986 VF Corporation puchased JanSport’s parent company, Blue Bell thus turning them into a VF’s brand.
JanSport brand’s backpacks are loved by anyone who values great durability, low prices and stylish looks in their things. I could go on praising their backpacks’ qualities for hours, but it’s best to get one that fits your needs and see for yourself.

A bit about backpack sizes…
All of the backpack sized fall into four categories, as I’ve described beloew:
Small (S) are the backpacks of 1000 in3 in size and smaller. These kinds of bags are usually miniature purse style bags or something like that
Probably good for school only, for the things like: a calculator, some pens/pencils, a lunch, cellphone or an mp3 player.
Medium (M) are the bags of 1000 to 1750 in3 in size. Good for both school an outdoors.
Large to Extra Large (L – XL) are the backpacks of 1800 to 2050 in3 in size. Good for outdoors as well as school.
Extra Extra Large (XXL) bags at 2100 in3 in size and bigger. While awesome for outdoors I think these are a bit too big for schools, but of course, to each his own
If you like carrying your whole house around the campus – no problem

Properly measuring a laptop
To properly measure a laptop for the purpose of seeing if it will fit a sleeve of your jansport (or any other really) bag or backpack you should diagonally measure it’s outer casing. Only diagonal measuring would represent the true size of your laptop. While the screen of a laptop could be “17 in size, the actual size of a laptop itself would most probably be bigger, so please remember this when choosing a bag for your laptop, although most manufacturers make laptop sleeves on their backpacks a little bit bigger than they state. Jansport is no exception in this case.
Washing your backpack:
Taking care of your backpack is important, that will allow it to stay your friend for years and years and years more. ![]()
Most of the backpacks are made of nylon or canvas, and may be freely laundered in a washing machine. It would be best if you used the care label, which can usually be found on a side or at the bottom of your backback, to determine what is your bag made of, but if it cannot be found chancesthat the backpack can still be laundered are very high. If you aren’t certain you can always hand wash it (see below).
Place your backpack in a washable laundy sack or a large pillowcase and place it inside a washing machine. That protects both the backpack and washing machine used from possible damage which might occur at high drum rotation speeds. Alternatively you could turn your backpack inside out, removing the supports prior to that and then folding any ties/straps inside.
Set the machine to the delicate mode. It may vary from machine to machine, but usually it is something like “gentle mode” or “delicate clothes”. It is best to set water temperature to 30-40C (86-104F), but for the highly stained/dirty backpacks this isn’t an option and a higher temp (60-70C, 140-158F) should be used. Remember that high temperatures may cause color bleeding, but in case of Jansport backpacks there is usually no reason for concern as they are ready to withstand high temperatures.
Use gentle detergent. Something that has “safe for use with colored clothes” should do fine.
Once the machine cycle is over, remove the backpack from it as well as any sack you put it in prior to washing. Use either the dryer or dry it outside or inside (personally I prefer to avoid dryers as they tend to add to degradation of clothes and ) . Best if you do that with the backpack turned inside out. Remember that using the dryer on a high setting might cause your backpack to shrink, turning your huge XL sized bag into an ipod carry case.
If you’re stuck hand washing your backpack you would probably want to first fill your bathtub or basin with lukewarm water and add a sufficient amount of gentle detergent. Once that is done, deliver the backpack in there and start massaging, groping and palpating it vigorously. Pay specific attention to the more stained places as they require more effort to clean. A toothbrush (or any substitute similar in effect) can be used to scrub at the dirty spots.
Rinse your backpack. Wring it to the best you can deliver. Proceed to drying ![]()
And you’re most probably done!
